Originally built as a cottage hospital in 1907, the building formed part of Lord Leverhulme’s philanthropic vision for Port Sunlight, to provide the very best facilities for his workforce. In more recent history whilst in the ownership of the Port Sunlight Village Trust, the Grade II Listed lodge operated as a nursing home.
Paddock Johnson were appointed as architects for the refurbishment, conversion, extension, and introduction of two new buildings on the site, to convert the former cottage hospital into a 4* Boutique Hotel, for Contessa Hotels.
The concept for the new hotel was centred around embracing the spirit of the existing building along with the unique atmosphere of Port Sunlight whilst at the same time retaining honesty of expression through a clearly contemporary approach to any new additions. The completed scheme comprises 15 suited rooms in the main building together with a further 24 within a new block.
