The Maples Extra Care provides 100 apartments for people aged 55 and over allowing residents to benefit from round the clock, individualised, care and support as and when they need it. In addition to the apartments the scheme features a variety of communal spaces including lounge, bistro, and hair salon creating a community not just homes. The bistro and hair salon are open to the wider community encouraging social interaction and creating local employment opportunities.

The Extra Care scheme sits at the gateway to the wider development which comprises 54 new affordable homes and 16 supported housing units for people living independently with low level support provided by the Maples team.

The Extra Care building is designed to wrap around a central landscaped courtyard, orientated to maximise daylight into the apartments. Communal facilities are located along the main elevation orientated to engage with Westhead Avenue. The housing wraps around the Extra Care in a newly formed crescent which follows the established urban grain of the area.
