The scheme created 13no. affordable dwellings, including ten accessible two bed bungalows and 3 three bed houses. The new homes formed part of the Transforming Estates Programme, a much wider urban renewal programme focusing on regeneration through the provision of increased housing options and helping to deliver improved sustainability within established communities and existing local facilities.
The dwelling mix was established through consultation with Bolton Council and their required housing need. Pre-application discussions were progressed with both the planning department and existing local residents. Design challenges included designing the layout around two mine shafts and previous backfilling of a quarry located on the site. The dwellings create improved choice for accessible living, and additionally, their position benefits from a neighbouring area of public open space and the variety of local facilities nearby.
